I decided to start reading and doing at the same time from  the information I have on brushes...I wont say I was totally successful, but began by creating the top picture by playing with brushes and colours

Next I added a layer from skeletalmess which toned it down, then rotated the image 90deg.

From there I added a photo and some text and some vines with a brush. and this is what I finished up with.
